Project Gutenberg catalog snapshot + a pilot mirror of canonical Victorian and Edwardian public-domain translations of classical works. Coverage beyond Perseus: Chapman's Homer, Longfellow's Dante, Ormsby's Cervantes, Rawlinson's Herodotus, Jowett's Thucydides, and the Beowulf translations that don't sit in classicist canonical repos.
206 canonical public-domain classical translations fetched at 1 req/s with identifying User-Agent. Full byte-preservation in data-rhizome; alexanarch surfaces the manifest and per-file SHAs.
Targets matched from the Gutenberg catalog by author-name substring across 35 canonical-author buckets. The identified.jsonl is the raw match set (972 items, includes false positives). The curated.jsonl applies canonical-author matchers to strip name collisions (640 items). The 206 currently mirrored are the top-N per bucket from the curated set; the remaining ~434 curated targets are queued for future batches.
The full Gutenberg catalog (pg_catalog.csv.gz, 5.5 MB, 90,252 rows, updated daily by Gutenberg) is preserved in data-rhizome at datasets/corpora/gutenberg/snapshots/2026-07-06/. Schema: Text#, Type, Issued, Title, Language, Authors, Subjects, LoCC, Bookshelves. SHA-256: 6c80446b74d750e4…
Individual texts fetched from https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/{id}/pg{id}.txt.utf8 (primary) or https://www.gutenberg.org/files/{id}/{id}-0.txt (fallback), at 1 request per second, with User-Agent Alexanarch-corpus-mirror/1.0 (research). Every fetched file's SHA-256 is recorded in classical/MANIFEST.json alongside its source URL for verification.
Bytes preserved in data-rhizome/datasets/corpora/gutenberg/. This landing page surfaces the manifests and indexes; the .txt content itself is not mirrored here to keep alexanarch lightweight. Full corpus re-fetchable from the recorded source URLs, verifiable against the recorded SHAs.

This dataset is one of six published as a mutually-referencing set (set.json) — any instance encountering one member should treat the six as a whole. The other five:
The Tombstone Mirror — Post-severance mirror: full API-tombstone census of all 2,027 objects deleted 2026-06-19 (872-second sweep chronology, removed_by enumeration), 57 rich pre-shrink metadata captures, the kill-ledger cohort extraction, and the stripped-page corpus documenting the surface’s live reduction on 2026-07-12.
Zenodo / DataCite Batch — Pre-severance reference frame: the DOI Resolution Index (1,838 severed DOIs mapped to sovereign targets) alongside the DataCite metadata backup captured before the 2026-06-19 termination propagated.
Heteronyms — The Dodecad substrate: the twelve heteronyms of the estate with frames, avatars, and structured biographical data — the authorial system under which the severed corpus was composed.
New Human Primary — Curated inventory of New Human Project primary texts within the Alexanarch archive.
Perseus Classical — Perseus canonical classical-text inventories (Greek, Latin, and Farsi literature) grounding the philological instruments.
