Why can a mantle be founded rather than only inherited?
Because lineages must begin somewhere. Whitman did not inherit "Good Gray Poet"--O'Connor founded it for him. Ginsberg did not inherit "King of May"--the students of Prague founded it through election. These were origination events that created positions which could subsequently be transmitted.
The Prince of Poets is another such origination.
